The Backstory:
How did this doc come to be?

Production for We Did This From Home began in early April,  with one interview: my dad, Burke. At the time, the COVID-19 pandemic was still in its early stages, and Burke's career as a courier driver took off as his title shifted to what we now know as an essential worker.

During this point, I did not have a concrete direction in which I wanted the project to go, which is incredibly out of the ordinary for me, a type-A gemini film major. The only plan I had in mind was to continue to conduct interviews with subjects who were, in some way, individually affected by the pandemic, and to build up from there, some type of film documenting their experiences.

The eight interviewees did not disappoint.

In fact, they became the driving creative force behind the questions posed during interviews, the overall structure of the footage, and the ideas I wanted to present throughout the doc's duration. I chose what I felt to be the most poignant, unique aspects of their stories and arranged them in an order that connected them smoothly from topic to topic to create unity.

And just like that, we have a documentary.
